On August 15, 2022, the "Myanmar Food Innovation Center Completion and Fruit Drying and Deep Processing Training Launching Ceremony" supported by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund was held in Yangon. Minister Counsellor Zheng Zhihong of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar and Minister of Science and Technology Miao Dengjue of Myanmar attended the ceremony. The speech was delivered by Wen Ze Yatun, Vice Chairman of Myanmar Lancang-Mekong Cooperation National Coordination Agency, who delivered an online speech. More than 50 people, including Chief Minister of Yangon Province Soo Deng, envoys or representatives of Mekong countries in Myanmar, and representatives of relevant departments, universities and institutions in Myanmar attended.



Minister Counselor Zheng Zhihong said that Myanmar enjoys a high reputation because of its humid climate and fertile land, and a large number of fruit exports. As urbanization increases and people's income increases, the consumption of fruits and processed fruit products will continue to expand. The development and introduction of advanced technology and equipment for fruit processing can make full use of technological innovation, effectively help improve the quality and added value of fruit processing products, extend the industrial chain, increase employment, and help people's livelihood development. It is hoped that the Food Innovation Center and the fruit drying and deep processing training can promote fruit processing enterprises to share advanced technologies, promote the development of the food processing industry in Mekong countries, and promote the export of more agricultural products.


Myo Deng Kyaw said that Myanmar is a country dominated by agriculture with abundant products. Agricultural drying products will enable safer storage, reduce waste and increase added value. At present, there is still a gap in Myanmar's fruit drying technology. With the support of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Fund, the Food Innovation Center of the Research and Innovation Division under the Ministry of Science and Technology is now equipped with advanced equipment. Through the training, participants will learn advanced drying and deep processing technology, and provide advanced technology and practice for local small, medium and micro enterprises. Thanks to China for supporting the cooperation of small and medium-sized projects in Mekong countries, helping regional development and innovation and entrepreneurship.



Wen Zeyatun emphasized the importance of the Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism in maintaining regional peace, prosperity and sustainable development, and looked forward to the food innovation center and processing training to contribute to the sustainable and inclusive development of Myanmar and even the Lancang-Mekong region.


Afterwards, the delegates attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the inauguration of the Food Innovation Center and visited the center.


So far, Myanmar has implemented more than 90 special fund projects for Lancang-Mekong cooperation, which have played an important role in Myanmar's economic and social development and the improvement of people's livelihood.
